This is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Rules of Success:
Have goals, purpose, and visions:
If you don’t have a goal or a vision of where you go, you will never end up anywhere. It’s like to have the best airplane in the world and a that doesn’t know where to go, he would not end up anywhere, almost like in the wrong place. Born in 1947 in Austria after the IIWW; honestly, I didn’t like Austria; when I grew up, I couldn’t wait to go abroad; I didn’t see myself becoming a farmer or a worker or anything like that. Even though my family wanted me to stay there and have a typical life, my father wanted me to become a police officer the same as him, and my mother wanted me to stay close to her and marry a girl and have a bunch of kids. However, that was their sight, not mine; my vision was completely different; I felt that I was born for something unique for something huge; I didn’t know how great it felt that I knew where I was going.
Many people don’t know where they’re going; when you have an objective, when you have a vision, everything is easy. In America, for example, 74% dislike their job, there is no difference in Europe, the majority of people don’t like what they’re doing, they didn’t have a goal, they’re just aimlessly drifting around. A small part of the people enjoy their job, which is unbelievable if you think about it; I felt so blessed that I knew the goal. It’s like a medical student who knows he wants to become a doctor. So I know where to go, people ask me in the gym in “the pumping iron days,” they say why you’re working out so hard, 5 hours a day or 6 hours a day, and you still have a smile in your face, others are working out just as hard as you do, and then they look sour in their face, why is that? I told people to me, and I am hunting for gold in front of “Mr. Universe title.” Hence, each rep that I do gets me closer to achieve the goal and make this vision turn into fact; every single set that I do, every repetition every weight that I lift, will get my move to turn this goal into reality. So I couldn’t wait to do another 500-pound bench press, I couldn’t wait for it to another 500-pound squat, I couldn’t wait to do another 3,000 reps of sit-ups, I couldn’t wait for the next exercise, and all the kind of things that you do to become a champion. At 20 years old, I went to the UK, and I won the Mr. Universe as the youngest Mr. Universe ever. It was because I had a vision.
I tell you something visualizing your goal and going after it makes it amusing. It would be better if you had a purpose no matter what you do in life.
Don’t listen to the naysayers or doubters.
Don’t ever listen to the naysayers. The things that they say are: it is difficult, or that can’t be done, Oh No. So every time someone said to me “it can’t be done,” I heard “it can be done” and when they said “no” I heard “yes” also when they say it’s “difficult” I heard it is “possible!”. I’m a believer of what Nelson Mandela said “everything is always impossible until someone does it,” well, I’m going to be the one that spoke to myself I’m going to do it. I’m going to show it to them; maybe it has never been done before that’s perfectly fine with me, but I am going to do it, and I did not listen to the naysayers.
Work our ass off and advertise.
There is no magic there, so Work your ass off, you cannot get around you have to work and work and work, it makes me crazy when some people don’t have enough time to workout for 45 minutes a day, or do something during 45 minutes to improve physically or mentally, imagine you read one hour a day about history, how much you will learn after one year , think about if it’s study about the history of musicians of composers how much informations you will add, if you work on a business you want to develop for an hour every day, imagine how further along you will go and get, so it drives me crazy when some people say they don’t have the enough time, we all have 24 hours/day we sleep 6 hours a day, but there’s some people who sleep eight hours right ( So SLEEP FASTER ), so we have 18 hours a day, the average work hour is around 8 to 10 hours, let’s suppose it’s 10 hours, if you have 8 hours left then you travel around for an hour a day perhaps 2 hours a day, so now still 6 hours left, then you do what with the 6 hours, we eat a little bit also we schmooze a little bit talk a few minutes, but you can see how much time is free if you organize your day so you got the work hard.
When I come to America, I went to college, and after that, I work out for 5 hours a day, and I was working on construction also because, in those days, there was no money in bodybuilding, we didn’t have money for food supplements or anything, so I had to go to work, and in addition, 4 times a week at night from 8 pm to 12 midnight I went to acting class, I did all that there was not one single minute that I spent doing nothing useful.
I became very friendly in the 70s with Muhammad Ali, he worked his butt off, and I witnessed it firsthand. I remember that there was a sports rider in the gym, and when he was working out, he was doing sit-ups; they questioned him how many sit-ups do you do, he said “I don’t start counting until it hurts,” think about that he doesn’t start counting his sit-ups until they feel pain, that’s when he says counting that is working hard, I believe what Ted Turner said “work like hell and advertise,” work hard and then let people know about your work that’s what it is all about, let people know your business your movie or sports that you do.
Humans function better if there is no safety net. So you don’t have to find a backup plan.
I’m not too fond of plan B, because we have a lot of doubters, those that say “no” and “you can’t do it” or “it’s impossible” that is okay. It is possible to do that with all the negative people around you; start doubting yourself is very dangerous because you say you have a fallback plan, that means that you start thinking about Plan B, and every thought about this take away some that energy from plan A. You need to know that we function better if there is no safety because Plan B becomes a safety net when you say that if I fail, then I fall, and I get picked up, and I have something else that will protect me, in my opinion, that’s not good and it is very dangerous to have a plan B because you’re cutting yourself off from the chance of really succeeding
Everyone fails, losers stay down.
To be a winner, we have to fail, never to be afraid of failing, we have never to stay down, and we have to get up continuously.
Among the reasons why people want to have a plan “B” is because they are worried about failing.
Well, let me tell you something, never be afraid of failing because there’s nothing wrong with fail; to climb that ladder, you have to fail, there’s no one that doesn’t fail, so it’s okay, What is not okay is that when you fail and you stay down, whoever stays down is a loser. Winners, when they fail, they always get up, we all lose, that’s why don’t be worried about losing because when you’re afraid of failing, then you get frozen, you get stuff, and you’re not relaxed. You got to perform well in anything if it’s in sport or on your job or with your thinking, you can do it only when you relax. So relax, it’s okay to fail.
Give back to the world, and try to Help out others.
You only feel complete as a person if you think about what you can do for your fellow members around you, that may need help. I felt like everyone has a different motivation. I was an immigrant coming to America, and I saw how America was the most generous country in the world. Americans opened up their arms to me, they helped me, invited me for Thanksgiving dinner, they brought me plates to my home because I had no blade, no silverware, etc.
They helped me, that’s all, that firsthand and generosity in America, in the center myself as an immigrant that is being embraced with open arms, and I need to go and make sure that I give something back.
